Metal Guide
The metal is the body of the ring: colour, hardness, and how it wears next to skin. Avaiya Gems describes metal in plain terms. If a listing does not name a karat or alloy, we do not invent one.
Gold colour
- Yellow gold — gold mixed with metals that keep a warm yellow. Classic next to most diamond colours.
- White gold — gold mixed with paler metals, often finished with rhodium so it reads bright white. Rhodium can wear; the ring may need a refresh later. That is normal, not a defect we hide.
- Rose gold — gold mixed with more copper, which gives a pink tone.
Karat
Karat is the gold share of the alloy. Higher karat looks richer and is a little softer. Lower karat is typically tougher for daily knocks.
- 14K (585) — a common balance for engagement rings.
- 18K (750) — more gold in the mix, a deeper colour in yellow and rose.
- 9K (375) — less gold, often a lower price, still a gold alloy when hallmarked as such.
Platinum
Platinum is dense and naturally white. It does not need rhodium to look white, though surface wear still happens. Marks such as 950 or PT describe purity. Platinum and white gold are not the same metal.
Skin and lifestyle
If you react to jewellery, tell us. Nickel in some white-gold alloys can bother sensitive skin; platinum or a different alloy may suit better. We do not claim every Avaiya Gems ring is nickel-free unless that is stated on the product.
